Star Treasure Box by Kirks FollyStargazing

I love to stargaze. Though I've never been able to connect the twinkling dots into constellations, it sparks my imagination to know that the Babylonians, Egyptians, and Greeks saw figures in the stars. Thousands of years later, those same figures are still tucked within the diamond spray, waiting to be discovered by new eyes that look up with wonder.

The vastness that cradles the stars in the night sky is nearly incomprehensible to me, and yet, I take great comfort in the secrets it holds. I know we're just a speck on a planet the size of a pea, in a universe that goes on forever without end. I know that our universe keeps time on a cosmic clock moving so slowly as to be nearly indiscernible, a lifetime reduced to a single tick of the hands. But I also know that we're not as small and insignificant as that might seem to indictate. For each of us has a divine spark within us, an internal star if you will, to light our path along life's journey. We need only to be still and seek its guidance.

Many of us are feeling left behind in a too-fast world. And yet, even as our culture moves ever faster, there are constants in the universe that never change. The moon still rises at twilight and lingers through dawn. Nature still cycles through its seasons of awakening and fruition, slumber and renewal. And the stars still parade overhead for anyone who wants to pull up a chair and watch the show.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is credited with first saying, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." Wisdom to remember when we get caught up in the frantic pace of everyday life. The faster we're going, the more we need to slow down and take note of our internal compass, the one that tells us in which direction our spirit should go. Look within your heart and follow your star.
